Five-Star Nursing Homes Choose Smart Partnerships

32 percent of Relias Learning’s nursing home customers receive five-star rating from CMS, doubling the nationwide percentage

CARY, NC – Relias Learning, the leading provider of online training solutions for healthcare organizations, announced today that 32 percent of its nursing home customers have received a five-star quality rating from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). CMS established the Five-Star Quality Rating System in 2008 for consumers to compare performance of nursing homes participating in Medicare and Medicaid.

Only 15.9 percent of all nursing homes received a five-star rating in 2012, while 32 percent of all Relias Learning’s nursing home customers received this five-star rating. Penn Hall at Menno Haven, a five-star facility and Relias Learning customer, utilizes the company’s senior care training courses to ensure its staff is well-trained.

“Before switching to online training, it was virtually impossible for us to reach compliance rates above 70 percent,” says Denny Hartman, director of staff development of Menno Haven Communities. “Now we don’t settle for anything less than 100 percent.”

Relias Learning offers customizable learning management solutions for healthcare organizations, in which facilities can create their own courses based on the information their staff should be trained on or use developed courses within the system, such as a course in denture care or wound care.

“The customizable features offered by Relias give our staff members a sense of empowerment – employees can choose their own lessons and take the courses on their own time,” says Hartman. “The transition for our company from traditional learning to online learning couldn’t have been any smoother.”

The rating system is based on performance in three categories: Health Inspections, Quality Measures and Staffing. Quality Measures involve more than 12 million assessments of the physical and clinical conditions of nursing home residents. Staff training is considered in this category, along with a staff’s ability to perform, which requires efficient training.

“The most successful nursing home facilities form smart partnerships,” says Jim Triandiflou, CEO of Relias Learning. “We value our business with Menno Haven Communities, and we strive as an organization to meet the needs of all our clients by offering the highest-quality training to provide the best possible care. We congratulate all Relias customers that received the five-star quality rating.”
