Relias Learning Partners to Offer Complimentary Resources to Public Safety Professionals

Relias joins forces with The National Council, ANCOR, and The Arc to form “Understanding and Serving Together” initiative.

CARY, NC, May 28, 2015 — Relias Learning, the leader in online training and compliance solutions for the healthcare market, is partnering with the National Council, ANCOR and The Arc to offer 10 complimentary courses relating to mental health and wellness. These specialized courses provide public safety professionals with additional resources to better understand and handle difficult situations.

Public Safety professionals are often the first responders to situations involving people with mental illness and developmental disabilities. Though they are extensively trained to handle difficult and dangerous situations, these professionals often do not get specialized training needed to properly interact with this particular population.

This lack of knowledge can result in dangerous misinterpretations of these situations and a person’s intentions. The training being provided by Relias and its partners can help Public Safety officers across the nation successfully communicate with people suffering from mental illness, substance abuse problems, or developmental disabilities and increase positive outcomes and safety for everyone involved.

A few of the complimentary courses include:

  • Overview of Serious Mental Illness for Paraprofessionals
  • Crisis Management and Positive Discipline with Juvenile Offenders
  • Overview of Substance Use Disorders: Part 1
  • Cultural Diversity

“As part of our commitment to the communities and professionals that we serve, Relias wanted to offer these resources at no cost. Our hope is that officers take advantage of our offer and gain expertise that will help them better protect and serve our communities,” stated Jim Triandiflou, CEO at Relias Learning.

Given how taxing public safety work is, Relias is also offering a new “Wellness Behind the Badge” course in this bundle. This course gives officers proven methods for handling stress, summarizes principles to combat and overcome stress, and covers simple steps to improve overall wellness. Additional courses in the complimentary bundle cover topics on mental illness, autism spectrum disorders, crisis intervention, and more.
